Pegasus Cover
The traditional cover for the Ford Ranger Wildtrak is the branded ‘Mountain Top’ roller shutter. Often this is factory fitted and is much like the sort of thing that you might see on a shop front closed for the night. They are pretty robust and are described as ‘weather-proof’ rather than ‘waterproof’. The majority of owners still go for the roller shutter but if you want something watertight then you have to start considering other options. A ‘Truckman’ style box would do the job but it fundmentally changes the look of the vehicle. There are various sports tonneau covers that can be fitted (see the Max Highline) but they all require the removal of the Wildtrak sports bar. The only tonneau that we can find that retains the sports bar, and is ‘waterproof’, is the Pegasus cover.
They do look great when on and the colour matches the grey of the sports bar, mirrors and grill. The cover locks in place when raised horizontally so you could put a load on the back, with the cover raised, and still drive along. They open in various different ways and are a really clever addition to the Wildtrak range of accessories.
The downside of them is that they are pretty complicated. Definitely don’t ever try and fit one yourself. We had a very experienced technician fit one for us when they first came out. In the end we had to send the vehicle to Pegasus in Bristol for them to fit it. In fact we now have a policy of only having Pegasus fitting their own covers. For others like the Max Highline and the Alpha we would be happy for a franchised dealer or fitter to do the work. Not with this cover. We also are not happy covering any aftermarket issues with this one. There have been some problems with these and it is not always easy finding resolution. For all Pegasus covers now we would prefer to deliver the vehicle to the customer with all other work done, and then the customer takes the vehicle to have the Pegasus cover fitted.
In summary, a great looking cover and one which solves a problem for Wildtrak owners. We fully endorse the look but not wholly endorse the product but that is only based on our own experience.
