2020 Ford Ranger Wildtrak

The big and exciting change is the introduction of an all new engine. There is now a 2.0 213ps EcoBlue diesel engine. The 3.2 200ps Duratorq is still available so, for the very first time, there is choice within the Wildtrak derivative. Previously if you wanted to go for better fuel economy you had to drop to the Limited and the 2.2 diesel but then you lost all the nice extras that come with Wildtrak. And worst of all you might have to remove all the chrome to get the look that you want. The other reason that some of our customers used to choose the Limited is because they wanted full leather seats. The half leather orange has always been a bit ‘marmite’ for customers. No issues now though as the Wildtrak comes with full leather throughout. In our humble opinion it’s the right move and will certainly switch even more people into the top of the range model.

It’s difficult to call how the choice will go between the two engines. We generally average 30 mpg out of our Rangers and it would be great to get some better fuel economy. But ours are used to pull boats and horseboxes and for customers to test drive towing their machinery. The grunt is supposed to be the same, but some drivers just want the biggest engine. In terms of our orders so far it is 50/50 on the two engines. We’ll keep you posted.

There are some other nice bits such as front parking sensors as standard, which they really should have been anyway, and a 230v inverter. Almost all our vehicles had those options added at factory anyway on the outgoing model. The headlights were always a source of concern and Ranger forums were rife with discussion on enhancements. Now we have LED headlights which can only be an improvement. The standard locking rear axle is also a great addition as it saves waiting six months for a £360 option, which was the case previously.

All in all, this vehicle is a definite improvement to what was already a bit of a belter. Ford have pretty much ticked all the boxes on the simple things that everyone wanted and given more choice. What’s not to like?
